DEVELOPMENT

The aim of Development is to strengthen the College's educational mission - to provide the resources necessary to ensure that present and future generations of men and women will be able to be educated in the Humanities and Fine Arts, and become more competent, thoughtful, reflective, and humane individuals.

The College of Humanities and Fine Arts, and indeed the University of Massachusetts Amherst, must look beyond government support, tuition and fees to cover the costs of excellence in teaching and research. In today's academic climate, our alumni and friends play an important role in supporting a wide variety of programs through unrestricted gifts, scholarship support, and donor-designated contributions.

Study abroad, graduate research projects, internships, and community outreach and service initiatives are among the most memorable and educational challenges students can take on, but inaccessible without grants made possible by alumni donations. Several alumni have established scholarships and fellowships to give today's UMass Amherst students the same chances they once enjoyed. A number of our students were able to study abroad thanks to alumni support, while others received financial aid allowing them to participate in internships providing valuable life experience and exposure to work environments.Through the Dean's Opportunity Fund, supported by alumni donations, our students have traveled, learned, and made a difference in their communities in Massachusetts, across the country, and overseas.

We thank all those who have supported the College and its Departments, and we encourage those who haven't, or would like to do more to contact us.
