Poems From The Women's Movement On Wednesday, September 16th, the UMass Amherst Everywoman’s Center co-sponsored an event entitled “Poems from the Women’s Movement,” held at Amherst College, and hosted by Ellen Miller-Mack, a faculty member at Amherst College. For more details about this event, click here. Women's Studies Changes Name Women's Studies is now Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies! After years of discussion and a year of working through the channels, the women's studies program has changed our name. We and the field have moved from an exclusive focus on women to one that embeds gender within a complex web of interlocking social formations including gender, race/ nationality/ ethnicity, class, and sexuality. To read more, click here. Senior Thesis Courtney Moren is a graduating senior from CHFA, studying Studio Arts with a concentration in Painting. Her thesis was displayed on the main floor of the Studio Arts Building last week. It included a number of pen and ink drawings. Each of the drawings was based people in Courtney’s life. On each picture was a Latin proverb that she felt best fit the person in the drawing. For more, click here. Art Exhibit: Monica Rabinowitz: Line #5- Knyazhevo Line #5- Knyazhevo, an exhibit by Monica Rabinowitz, located in Hampden Gallery, is on display until May 20th. This powerful work is not only a piece of art, but a piece of history as well. To read more, click here. Declamation Day On April 22nd, at Bezanson Hall, UMass held the second annual Declamation Day event, entitled From Ovid to Obama. The idea for Declamation Day was originally envisioned by the Dean of CHFA, Joel Martin, with help from Theater Professor Milan Dragicevich, in an effort to “rekindle the spoken word,” as the Dean described in his introduction. Studio Arts Mac Lab The new Mac Digital Studio in the Studio Arts Building is an exciting addition to the Art Department’s set of resources that calls for a series of articles and interviews. This is the second article in the series, and will give a general overview of how this lab can be used, and how this addition has expanded the opportunities and capabilities of the Art Department. For more from this interview, click here.Blueprints For a Nation On Friday, April 17th from 3-5pm in Herter Hall 601, Puerto Rican artist and activist ADÁL will be giving a lecture and exhibition. ADÁL has delivered his lecture, “Blueprints for a Nation: On the Road,” at many different locations since 2002. For more information, click here. "Mother/Memory" Exhibit The art exhibit “Mother/Memory,” located in Hampden Gallery in the Southwest living area, embodies all of the qualities of what ‘mother’ means. Three unique women, from all over the world, contributed to this exhibit: Iigim Veryeri-Alaca, Ann Coddington Rast and Tanja Softic. To read more, click here. New Mac Lab in Studio Arts Building On February 18th, 2009 the College of Humanities and Fine Arts IT team installed a new Apple computer lab in the Studio Arts Building. Its purpose is to provide the Department of Art with tools for imaging, sound, and multimedia projects. For more information, click here.
