Hampden Gallery: New England/New York/ New Talent
This month, in Hampden Gallery, located in the Southwest Residential area, is an art exhibit titled, New England/ New York/ New Talent. This art exhibit is a compilation of pieces completed by various artists from the New England and New York area. Each of these visual artists have painted their souls on a canvas for all to see. New England/New York/New Talent had their opening reception on November 7, and is now open to the public until December 7. Fourteen artists were chosen to display their work in the gallery. One artist, Angela Zamarelli, is an alumni of the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Other artists include Ruth Waldman, Deb Karpman, Dot Szemiot, Elizaqbeth Kellogg, and Sara Klar. Sara Klar agreed to be interviewed by the College of Humanities and Fine Arts about her artwork being featured in New England/New York/New Talent. During Ms.Klar’s interview, she explained that her background had a very large impact on what had inspired her to begin painting. Klar was born into a very traditional orthodox Jewish family. “There was a very closed system of thought and exposure. When I left that background, I became very open.” One other source of inspiration came from the museums in New York. For New England/New York/New Talent, Klar chose a previous piece of work. She decided to showcase four slides from a series that she had worked on for a previous exhibit. Through her work, Klar hopes to help someone encounter the same experience that she had. She wants to inspire people the same way that she was inspired through others’ artwork, and she wants to speak and reach out to people through her masterpieces. New England/New York/ New Talent has brought many new faces to Hampden Gallery to witness the stunning artwork, first hand. Next Month being featured in Herter Gallery: Radius, a multimedia exhibit completed by the students of the studio arts MFA program. |
