Important Campus Contacts for Grant Support

Several offices on campus offer advice and support for your grant proposals.  Each office has a different focus depending on the kind of grant (as noted below), but staff in all are ready to help initially with any kind of question or by directing you to the right office.

Note that for any grant for which funds will be paid to the University rather than to you as an individual, you MUST contact the Office of Grant and Contract Administration (OGCA). More informally, it’s always good practice to share your proposal with a colleague in another field or sub-area who has won grants.

Members of this committee are CHFA faculty who have successfully applied for grants and who have volunteered to read and offer suggestions on CHFA colleagues’ project proposals, both internal and external.  Click here for the contact information of committee members.

Contact Bruce McCandless, especially for guidance on internal FRG/Healey grants or larger grants. We strongly recommend that you do so if you want to resubmit an internal FRG/Healey proposal that has been rejected.  (Second time submissions typically have a higher rate of success.)

  • Office of Grant and Contract Administration (OGCA)

OGCA is, first of all, the University accountant for all grants for which funds will be paid to the University rather than to you as an individual.  Again, you MUST contact OGCA if you are submitting such a grant. They also offer support and advice for any grants from governmental and other public institutions.  Helen Bishop specifically works with faculty at the initial stage of the funding search and helps them understand university policies and sponsor specific requirements, including budgeting, pertaining to particular applications.

(OCFR)

This office cultivates University relations with private foundations and corporations, including for funding of faculty research.  Whereas OGCA handles public funders, OCFR handles private funders, and it is best to contact them rather than OGCA about private funding because they often have information about an organization that does not appear on the organization’s website (such as about funding patterns and preferences).  Linda Sopp focuses on HFA and SBS grants.  Susan Worgaftik now focuses on non-HFA and SBS grants, but has years of experience in humanities funding and can give assistance in Linda's absence.
